Course Description

Introduces students to principles of cybersecurity. Topics will include cryptography, security protocols, common cyber attacks, and defense mechanisms. Forms the basis for more advanced studies in cybersecurity. Offered every semester.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the broad set of technical, social & political aspects of Cyber Security 
  • Understand vulnerabilities and threats posed by criminals, terrorist, and nation-states to national infrastructure (Type of attacks) 
  • Understand the nature of secure software development, operating systems, database design, and security protocols 
  • Understand basic techniques related to cryptography 
  • Recognized the role security management plays in cybersecurity defense 
  • Understand the security management methods to maintain security protection 
  • Understand the basics of mobile device security 
  • Be able to apply basic scripting for security
