Students in this course will learn common security pitfalls in web applications as well as how to avoid them. Topics include use of encryption, spoofing, phishing, session management, secure data storage and other techniques related to ensuring the protection of the application and customer data.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the quarter the student will be able to do the following:
- Understand the importance of only performing authorized tests as evidenced by successful completion of laboratory and homework assignments and exams.
- Identify common web platforms
- Understand the most common web application vulnerabilities as evidenced by successful completion of laboratory and homework assignments and exams.
- Identify and exploit known vulnerabilities which some of the most common vulnerabilities attacker use to compromise applications as evidenced by successful completion of laboratory and homework assignments and exams.
- Describe what the potential impact could be if these vulnerabilities were not detected as evidenced by successful completion of laboratory and homework assignments and exams.
- Identify the security challenges faced by organizations that have a web presence as evidenced by successful completion of laboratory and homework assignments and exams.
- Describe and explain how the importance of web application security for any organization with a presence on the Internet as evidenced by successful completion of laboratory and homework assignments and exams.
