Course Description

This course will build on the fundamentals covered in NTW102, to further advance the students working knowledge of network engineering. This class will provide depth of knowledge regarding the operation of modern networks. Topics will include managing risk and security, advanced networking, IPv6, remote connectivity, wireless, virtualization, mobile networking, building and monitoring networks, and troubleshooting network issues. Students will be given hands-on exercises to reinforce the knowledge taught in class.

Learning Objectives

1. Identify and describe the common physical and logical networking components.
2. Compare and contrast routing and switching functionality including an understanding of when each should be used and why.
3. Describe the features and functions of VPNs.
4. Define the capabilities and management of managed switches.
5. Configure and deploy VLANs
6. Implement advanced switch features.
7. Define how router - switch protocols work in a modern network.
8. Configure an industry standard Switch / Router / Wireless Access Point (multifunctional device) to connect from a small business network to an Internet Service Provider.
9. Determine the advantages / disadvantages of utilizing WAN technologies in the enterprise.
