Course Description

Our Internationally recognised and University accredited Introduction to Crypto Asset Recovery Course has been developed by our crypto asset recovery experts to provide a succinct, pragmatic, and unambiguous course that is relevant to law enforcement, the financial sector, oversight, and numerous other professions. Crypto assets and other digital assets are at the precipice of exponential growth in terms of economic value and widespread consumer adoption as a mainstream asset class. Commensurate with this growing adoption, is, unfortunately, a growing concern over fraud and abuse by threat actors. Students taking the course will be equipped to recognise the essential principles of cryptocurrencies, the mechanics of transactions, and the role of security features like cryptographic hashing and private/public keys. This knowledge will enable them to navigate the complex landscape of cryptocurrency exchanges, both centralized and decentralized, and understand the importance of KYC regulations in mitigating fraud and illicit activities. Armed with this knowledge, students will be better equipped to trace, investigate and understand illicit activities that utilize digital currencies.

Learning Objectives|By understanding the basics of this new class of assets - digital assets - specifically cryptocurrencies, students can better grasp how these currencies can be used in illicit activities online and will serve as the foundation for future learning on how to trace and investigate suspicious cryptocurrency transactions|At the conclusion of the course students will be able to understand:|Blockchain Technology, as being able to grasp the concept of blockchain technology allows students to understand how transactions are recorded and traced, a critical aspect in investigating financial crimes involving cryptocurrencies|Security Aspects of Cryptocurrencies|Cryptographic hashing and the role of public and private keys|How people secure their crypto assets, and how these mechanisms can be exploited by criminals|Transaction Mechanisms: Knowing how Bitcoin transactions work, and the role of Bitcoin wallets|Identification of patterns and networks|Cryptocurrency Exchanges and Regulations|How cryptocurrency exchanges function, and the importance of regulations like Know Your Customer (KYC)|Centralized and decentralized exchanges to aid tracing illicit funds, and the methods criminals use to obscure their activities|Crypto currency and money laundering|Non-fungible Tokens and how they can be used in crime|What is included?|On successful completion of the course students will receive| An Ulster University Certificate and 4.5 US Department of Education recognized Higher Education credit points which equate to 20 UK University CPE/CPD points|Accredited digital study material|Access to our University Blackboard Training platform|Access to our peer noticeboard|Students' successful completion of our three courses in this series will see a further award of a University Certificate in Continuous Professional Development.
