This course will address the nomenclature, installation, configuration and troubleshooting of Windows operating system, as well as familiarize the student with the technology, maintenance and repair of computers.  Computer architecture also will be discussed and examined. The course will offer a balance of lecture and lab experiments. Elements of the CompTIA A+ professional certification exam will be followed throughout the course. Course is offered in the fall semester.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify major system files in Windows, their structure, and how they are used
  • Identify concepts and procedures for creating, viewing, and managing files, directories and disks
  • Identify the basic system boot sequence and boot methods
  • Identify the procedures for installing/adding/changing device drivers
  • Identify the procedures for installing and setting up the Windows printing system
  • Identify the networking capabilities of Windows and procedures for connecting to the network
  • Identify the components that are present on the personal computer system board and their function
  • Install and format a hard disk drive
  • Trouble shoot and repair a personal computer
