Learning Objectives

Students in this course investigate the responsibilities of the security specialist, including the security of operating systems and other system software, such as database management systems. Through a variety of assignments, including hands-on lab work, students explore components of a networked operating system, architectural designs for secure usage, system administration tasks, and tools for security. Students examine the real effects that security threats have on systems. They address such threats through exercises in administrative tasks using tools vital for implementing security policies on Linux and Windows systems.
