Network Cyber Essentials Course (NET-I)

A career in information security requires a foundational understanding of digital networks. By understanding network hardware, software and governing protocols, students can expect to understand the shortcomings and vulnerabilities of digital networks (or the misconfiguration thereof) as well as the proper steps needed to ensure they operate properly and securely. This course will provide a foundation necessary to prepare students for follow on courses that facilitate sitting for industry standard certification exams. Target Audience This course is designed for students who demonstrate an interest in pursuing a network or information security career and require an introduction to the field.

Learning Objectives

Students should expect to learn foundational principles of digital networking to include network topology, the OSI model, TCP/IP, ethernet, network hardware, wireless networking fundamentals, concepts in availability, network troubleshooting and much, much more. Students will then be given an introductory overview to key principles in network security providing a foundation for follow on network security courses. Understanding these key principles will be integral to an early network or security analyst.
