Windows Server
Students will learn to install, configure and operate a modern network server in both workgroup and domain configurations. They will learn to use the logical components of a domain to design simple forest structures. They will create appropriate user accounts and security groups to protect access to servers and to secure specific resources stored on servers. They will configure and troubleshoot critical infrastructure services as well as manage and configure storage use.

Learning Objectives
By the end of the course the student will be able to do the following in each objective category:
- • Install a modern server operating system and explain the options and requirements for the installation as assessed by lab exercises, self-assessment review questions and graded multiple choice exams. (Comprehension & Application)
- • Configure and troubleshoot access to resources such as files and folders as assessed through lab exercises, lab exams and instructor observations. (Synthesis)
- • List and describe the components of an Active Directory topology and recognize how Organizational Units and Group Policy Objects can be used to control users and computers assessed through self-assessment review questions and graded multiple choice exams. (Knowledge and Comprehension)
- • Compare and contrast how local and domain user accounts can be used for authentication and configure appropriate account settings as assessed by lab exercises, self-assessment review questions and graded multiple choice and hands-on lab exams. (Analysis & Synthesis)
- • Design and create an appropriated group structure that can be used to protect resources on servers and select appropriate groups to satisfy a case study design as assessed by laboratory exercises, self-assessment review questions and graded exams that include both multiple choice and design problem questions. - • Create Share and NTFS permissions to protect files and folders when accessed locally or from across a network and evaluate the results as assessed by laboratory exercises, self-assessment review questions and graded multiple choice exams. (Synthesis & Evaluation)
- • Recognize the importance of DNS and DHCP to a server based network and configure these services as assessed by laboratory exercises, self-assessment review questions and multiple choice exams. (Comprehension and Application)
- • Prepare and manipulate local and network printers as assessed by laboratory exercises, self-assessment review questions and multiple choice exams. (Application)
- • Recognize and explain the various storage options for servers as assessed by laboratory exercises, self-assessment review questions and multiple choice exams (Comprehension & Evaluation)
- • Discuss topics related to the subject matter of the course in a thoughtful and professional manner as assessed by instructor observation of discussion forum postings. (Comprehension and Evaluation)
