Learning Objectives

By the end of the quarter the student will be able to do the following in each objective category:
Authentication & Authorization - List and describe the authentication and authorization mechanisms used in a domain. Configure a domain to block authentication protocols that are not needed and pose potential security risks. Configure and troubleshoot authorization for access to domain resources through proper application of rights and permissions.
Patching & Updating - Identify and describe the different techniques used to patch and update clients and servers in an Active Directory forest. Configure a network to use centralized patching and updating.
Hardening and Securing Workstations & Servers - List, describe and compare the different server functions and the requirements for hardening and securing each server type. Configure servers with correctly selected security settings based on the role each server plays in the network.
Certificates - Describe the components of a Public Key Infrastructure and explain how PKI can be implemented in an Active Directory forest. Describe and compare the type of certificate authorities and select appropriate types for a network.
Information Literacy Project Presentation - Demonstrate the ability to locate, select and utilize appropriate sources of information to prepare an accurate and informative oral presentation on a subject relevant to the course material.
