Virtualization
This course explores the use of virtualization. Concentration is on the implementation and maintenance of virtual machine infrastructures with emphasis on server-class virtual images. The differing virtualization techniques, such as full, OS, and paravirtualization will be examined. In addition, vendor offerings and open source options will be compared. The techniques used to move physical machines to the virtual domain will be evaluated and applied, as well as system security, patch management, backups, disaster recovery, and system runtime and response.

Learning Objectives
By the end of the quarter the student will be able to do the following:
- List and explain the benefits and limitations of the various forms of virtualization available in the industry.
- Describe the benefits and limitations of hardware available for server virtualization the industry.
- Describe and compare available hypervisor technologies, including the benefits and restrictions of full virtualization versus Paravirtualization
- Compare products from the major commercial vendors as well as open source offerings
- Describe the benefits of virtualization with green technology, system maintenance, disaster recover, and patch management
- Identify limits limitations of virtualization technology and when it might not be appropriate for specific projects or situations
- Describe, compare, and contrast the pros and cons of public and private Cloud computing and data storage technologies.
- Recognize up-and-coming concepts of server virtualization versus desktop virtualization in regards to Virtual Desktop Infrastructure.
