Introduction to Operating Systems

This course provides an introduction to the major hardware and software components of computer-based operating systems. Students will learn about Windows, Linux, and MacOS. They will also learn basic system maintenance, use of terminal commands, data security, virtualization, and computer numbering systems. Upon successful course completion, students will be able to configure the user interface, perform basic maintenance, and conduct data backup and recovery.

Learning Objectives

Configure and Implement operating systems using common features and tools, implement best practices for documentation, and understand virtualization concepts. Troubleshoot, Manage and maintain personal computer systems by utilizing and configuring operating system management features and tools for various operating systems. Create a secure computing environment by implementing security best practices, applying policies, identifying, and mitigating common threats and vulnerabilities. Develop and maintain secure networks by comparing networks, summarizing services, installing, configuring, and troubleshooting wired and wireless networks with security settings. Configure and maintain secure operating systems by managing and using features, utilities, and security settings within file systems.
