IT Governance

This course introduces principles of information technology governance, focusing on IT control objectives (COBIT) and related internal controls. Coursework explores best practices for managing IT processes; meeting multiple needs of enterprise management by bridging gaps between business risks; technical issues; control needs; and performance measurement requirements. Students explore IT industry standards, and develop governance skills relating to creating and maintaining corporate information systems policy.

  • Students learn to define information governance and its impact on information security, build an information governance team and implement industry best practices, understand the impact of big data, the e-discovery process, and data retention requirements, implement information governance best practices for database security and compliance, define information governance policies for e-mail, messaging systems and mobile applications, understand security threats related to cloud computing and define its information governance solutions, understand digital preservation requirements and define support strategies, and define a comprehensive approach to implement and maintain information governance.
