Course Description

Course Desc: A study of the legal, ethical, and regulatory requirements associated with conducting digital forensics and cyber investigations. The objective is to apply appropriate legal and ethical frameworks and processes while reporting cybercrimes and collecting and using digital evidence. Topics include digital forensics relevant to federal, state, and international regulations and statutes on expert witnesses, digital search warrants, digital evidence policies and procedures, codes of ethics, breach notification requirements, and emerging legal issues and policies.

Learning Objectives

After completing this course, you should be able to:
Plan digital forensic investigations using appropriate legal authority and ethical responsibility
Analyze the impact of Federal and international laws, regulations, and compliance requirements on digital forensics and cyber investigations
Prepare a communication plan and notification resulting from a data breach
Interpret emerging legal issues and policies impacting digital forensics
Summarize recommended processes to report cybercrimes, collect and use digital evidence, and find expert witnesses
Create a sample report of a breach notification to be used by a cybersecurity team, legal team, and public relations team during an incident
