This course prepares IT professionals for worst-case scenarios through the creation of a business impact analysis, business continuity plan, and disaster recovery plan.
Every organization is at risk of some type of interruption or disaster and must plan accordingly. This web-based course steps through three important protection plans: a business impact analysis (BIA), a business continuity plan (BCP), and a disaster recovery plan (DRP). The course is designed for business and IT professionals, and offers access to online resources including texts, case studies, lectures, and paper-based labs that duplicate real-world scenarios. Qualified instructors are available to answer questions about the content and theory.
For a given scenario, you will begin by identifying mission-critical applications and access to data requirements, and then perform a BIA utilizing a qualitative assessment approach. You will then develop the scope of a BCP, align the BIA with the BCP’s scope, and develop a BCP outline. Finally, you will learn about backup and recovery processes and the purpose of a DRP. This part of the course emphasizes the recovery time objective (RTO), an important metric for recovering data. You will define a process for recovery procedures, identify a backup solution for saving your own data, test and verify your backup, and explain how you can lower RTO with proper backup and recovery procedures.
