This course introduces students to the Information Technology (IT) concepts and the software that facilitates IT solutions. Topics include: data, information, and knowledge concepts, productivity software tools, role of networking and communication, the "digital phenomena", and the benefits of IT. Also included are IT program concepts such as: ethics, the importance of effective written and oral communication, continuous learning, and technology monitoring-evaluation.
Learning Objectives
- Describe a foundation for the information technology specialization.
- Describe the process of evaluating, adopting, utilizing and integrating powerful computing tools for solving complex problems
- Describe the evaluation of information technology tools with respect to capabilities and limitations along various problem domains
- Describe the importance of increasing productivity in terms of improving effectiveness and efficiency
- Give the student practice in speaking and writing about information technology using two voices of communication
- Give the student practice in early adoption and infusion of new technology through rapid, life-long learning
- Introduce the student to the breadth-first topics of data storage and retrieval
