A study of key security issues and procedures in systems and networks. The objective is to identify security issues within LANs, WANs, and network operating systems; identify system threats and network infrastructure design weaknesses; determine security flaws in the network infrastructure protocols; and explain the security of data at rest in systems. Topics include modern systems and network hardening tools, techniques, and practices. Students may receive credit for only one of the following courses: CST 620 or CTCH 625.
Learning Objectives
Learners will master the following Cybersecurity Skills upon completion of the course.
Synthesize the fundamental concepts, technologies, components, and issues related to network defense
Verify the packets involved in a simple TCP connection (or a trace of such a connection)
Determine the appropriate network security tools to effect cybersecurity principles
Evaluate how network operational procedures relate to network security
Review the elements of a cryptographic system
Describe the differences between symmetric and asymmetric algorithms
Framework Connections
The materials within this course focus on the NICE Framework Task, Knowledge, and Skill statements identified within the indicated NICE Framework component(s):
