Course Description

Virtual machine management is all about defining and redefining the resources needed for a particular instance. This course covers virtual machine creation and management, and best practices for VMs in a VMware vSphere 6.5 environment.

Learning Objectives

Perform Virtual Machine Management

  • start the course
  • describe a VMware virtual machine both conceptually and in terms of file structure
  • describe VM hardware versions in VMware vSphere 6.5
  • add or remove VM hardware resources such as network interfaces, RAM, and CPUs
  • apply shares, limits, and reservations based on VM resource needs
  • work with virtual machine templates in VMware vSphere 6.5
  • create and manage virtual machine snapshots in VMware vSphere 6.5
  • manually migrate a VMware vSphere 6.5 virtual machine between hosts
  • use the vCenter Server vMotion tool to migrate VMs between hosts
  • use the vCenter Server storage vMotion tool to migrate VM files between datastores
  • use VMware Tools to manage virtual machines in VMware vSphere 6.5
  • use the controls in vCenter to power off, shut down, or suspend VMs running on an ESXi host
  • identify the purpose and implement VM Secure Boot

Practice: Using vSphere vMotion

  • correctly migrate a running VM between ESXi hosts using the vSphere Web Client
