Unprecedented events such as the Y2K bug and terrorist attacks, along with increasing cybercrime pervasiveness and sophistication, have meant that since the early 2000s, a security team's ability to recover from a disaster has moved from a bonus to non-negotiable. There are several phases to incident response, from preparation to forensic investigations and beyond. A competent security professional needs to know all of them.
