Course Description

Exchange Server 2013 offers some new enhancements when it comes to high availability, storage, and site resiliency. This course describes these enhancements. You will also learn how to plan, configure, and manage site-resilient database availability groups and networks including planning a cross-site DAG configuration, recommending quorum options given customer requirements, and implementing Datacenter Activation Coordination (DAC). This course is one of a series in the Skillsoft learning path that covers the objectives for the Advanced Solutions of Microsoft Exchange Server (70-342) 2013 exam.

Learning Objectives

High Availability and Site Resilience

  • start the course
  • select examples of high availability using resiliency
  • describe how Database Availability Groups (DAGs) can provide high availability and resilience
  • describe the configuration of a Database Availability Group (DAG)
  • recognize how storage enhancement affects availability
  • describe how the Managed Availability Service affects availability
  • describe the enhancements made to provide high availability and site resilience
  • identify how cmdlets are used to create high availability for DAGs

Managing a Site-Resilient DAG

  • identify DAG network configuration requirements
  • compare the DAG member's client-facing and replication NIC
  • describe characteristics of a two member DAG located in the same site with two NIC cards in each; one connected to the MAPI network and one connected to the replication network
  • recognize best practices for using iSCSI with DAGs
  • describe DAG network encryption and compression support
  • list the key DAG configuration considerations when designing a Service Level Agreement (SLA)
  • list the key DAG configuration considerations when planning secondary datacenters
  • describe how you can optimize a cross-site DAG configuration
  • identify the functions of Quorum
  • describe features of Datacenter Activation Coordination (DAC) mode
  • identify limitations when implementing DAC

Practice: Database Availability Groups

  • configure and manage a database availability group
