Your Input Needed: Educating and Training the Cyber Workforce of Today and the Future

As technology is evolving and cyber threats continue to rise, the need for a capable cybersecurity workforce remains a national priority.

The recent Presidential Executive Order 13800, “Strengthening the Cybersecurity of Federal Networks and Critical Infrastructure,” seeks to understand the state of Federal and critical infrastructure cybersecurity.

It also focuses on workforce development efforts across the Nation (including training and education activities) and developing recommendations for improvement, to ensure the United States maintains a long-term cybersecurity advantage.

The National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) has released a Request for Information (RFI) open to the Nation to help inform this assessment of current workforce efforts. This RFI is an opportunity for those involved in cybersecurity workforce, education, and training to provide their information, ideas, and views about the scope and sufficiency of efforts to educate and train the Nation’s workforce to meet current and future private and public sector cybersecurity needs.

Please consider one or more of the following important topics in your response:

  • Cybersecurity education curricula
  • Training programs and courses
  • Apprenticeship programs
  • Recommendations on how to support and improve the workforce in both the public and private sectors

Responses to the RFI will help inform a report from the Secretaries of Commerce and Homeland Security to the President, as required in the Executive Order.

All comments must be received by 5 p.m. Eastern time on August 2, 2017.

For details about the RFI, including how to respond, please visit Responses to the RFI will be posted on as-submitted, so please refrain from responding with information you do not wish to be posted.
