Special Report on NICE Workforce Framework Capability Indicators

The National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST), has recently released the NIST Interagency Report (NISTIR) 8193, which provides NICE Cybersecurity Workforce Framework Work Role Capability Indicators.

Together with a diverse group of cybersecurity experts, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) led the development of these Work Role Capability Indicators, which include education, training, certification, experience, and continuous learning recommendations for the Work Roles defined in the NICE Cybersecurity Workforce Framework. Capability Indicators can be used for a wide variety of workforce development purposes, such as building position descriptions and career pathways and recruiting and developing talent.

DHS and NIST are seeking feedback to help refine and validate the Capability Indicators.

To share your input, please:

  1. Review NISTIR 8193 at: https://csrc.nist.gov/publications/detail/nistir/8193/draft
  2. Submit your feedback to cybersecurityworkforce@hq.dhs.gov by December 8th, which is the end of the public comment period

In addition, we are also seeking feedback regarding the Indicators’ effectiveness in developing and gauging professionals’ proficiency within any given Work Role. Also, any recommendations you can provide for the few Work Roles (e.g., Target Developer, Mission Assessment Specialist, Multi-disciplined Language Analyst) for which we lack data would also be appreciated.

If you have any questions, please contact cybersecurityworkforce@hq.dhs.gov.
